With Colibrí Journeys, you will be gently nestled into the heart of the Sacred Valley, where friendly faces, local delicacies and cozy alpaca scarves await. We spend our first nine days based out of Pisaq, a small town that is thriving due to their famously vibrant art market. After a day or so to get settled, we have the honor of participating in a Despacho Ceremony: an ancient ritual to express gratitude, welcoming, and set our intentions with a Q’ero curandero. From Pisaq, we will make several day-trips to the surrounding villages and sacred sites. We will also take time to volunteer in a local school, visit the town’s museum, plant nursery, and familiarize ourselves with the endearing local culture and community.
We will then take a week to traverse the Valley, stopping in archeological sites, bright markets, and other small towns along our way to Machu Picchu. We’ll witness the sunrise over the cloud-swirled and jungle-draped Mountains that embrace Machu Picchu; and venture along the railroad tracks to explore botanical gardens brimming with butterflies and tropical plants. Finally we will wrap up with a couple days in Cusco, staying in the picturesque old neighborhood of San Blas, while learning from unique museums, and other key cultural sites around the city.
